Having a Garmin is a good idea for hunting but how to download maps to Garmin is even much more important. The reason is that if you don’t know how to do it, then your device is just a waste of money. You have just bought a brand-new Garmin and still don’t know how to download maps? Well, I used to have the same problem, actually, I had to spend days searching for how to download maps.
Finally, after a long time asking experienced hunters and searching on Google, I have already known how to do it. Now, if you have the same problem like me, then just read on and believe me, you can get what you need.
Preparation
Make sure you have the following things:
- A Team HUNT account
- Registered HUNT Download Map
- High-speed internet connection
- A computer with USB port or SD card reader
- Free Basecamp mapping software
- Garmin GPS with USB cable or SD adapter (if you have SD card reader)
How to Download Maps to Garmin for Window
Get your Garmin ready
Step 1: Plug your Garmin into your PC and wait until the device is recognized.
Step 2: Activate the Basecamp software.
Step 3: Take note of your Unit ID which is on the left-side menu. Can you see your GPS and Unit ID there? If you can, take note of it.
Download and run the Map installer
Before moving on to how to download maps to Garmin, you have to download the Hunt Map installer first.
Step 1: Access the website “HuntingGPSmaps.com” and type your own Team HUNT account to log in.

Step 2: Click “My Maps” category on the left-side menu.
Step 3: Click “Download for PC/Mac” button and then save the Updater file in a place where you can find it easily later on. For instance, you can save the Updater file in your “Downloads folder”.
Step 4: You will see the file “HUNT_XX_installer.exe” at the bottom of the browser screen, so just click to run it.
Tip: Do not close the browser because you will have to generate an unlock code from the Team HUNT account later on.
Step 5: Continue the HUNT Map Installer by click “next”.
Step 6: There will be a lot of things to read but you just need to agree to the License agreement by clicking “next” again.
Step 8: Click “install” in order to temporarily download the HUNT Map to your computer, you can save it anywhere you want.
Step 9: Click “Finish” when the installation is done.
Generate a map unlock code
Download winbox untuk windows 10. Step 1: Open the website HuntingGPSmaps.com and login your Team HUNT account again.
Step 2: Click “My maps” category and generately unlock code.
Step 3: Type your Unit ID and the optional GPS model/user, then click Submit.
Step 4: Press OK to confirm your Unit ID is correct.
Step 5: Click “Copy Code”.
Unlock the Map for your GPS
Step 1: Open the Basecamp.
Step 2: Once you see the Locked Maps detected dialogue box, click “Unlock Maps”.
Step 3: When the Map Product manager dialogue box comes up, click the “Unlick Regions” tab.
Remember not to click “Unlick online”.
Step 4: Click “Add…” in the upper right of the Map Product Manager dialog box.
Step 5: Paste the Unlock Code you have just generated in your Team HUNT Account and click OK. You will see your map appear in the Map Product manager later.
Step 6: Close the box.
Transfer the hunt map download to your GPS
Step 1: Press the Windows Key on your keyboard.
Step 2: Type “Mapinstall” in the search box and activate the Mapinstall program.
Step 3: Choose “Continue”
Step 4: Select “Install” to transfer the Hunt Map to your Garmin.
Don’t rush because the process of installing may take up to 1 hour, depending on the size of the map and your internet connection.
Step 5: Select “Finish”
Step 6: Slowly unplug your device from the PC.

How to download maps for Mac OS X
Unlike Windows, you will need to remember the following things before downloading hunting maps for this operating system.
- To use BaseCamp Map Product, you have to install Garmin’s free BaseCamp software
- Warning: Do not download this app from iTunes App Store as it is an incomplete version and can result in incompatibilities when you use with your maps.
- In BaseCamp, set the “Map Detail” setting to the highest level. You can find this setting at the bottom of the map screen in a grey box. Then move the slider bar towards the + sign
- Select “View” and click on “View 2-D Map Only”.

Quick guide for installation
Now, it’s time to download maps for your device. You’ve already known the detailed step-by-step install process with Windows before so I just give you a quick installation guide for Mac OS X.
Step 1: After having BaseCmap installed on your Mac and all settings configured properly, log into your Hunting GPS Maps account. Then access to the My Maps account page.
Step 2: You can see a list of map products you have. Select “Download (for Mac)” next to the map you want to install, so that you can download the Mac installation files for the map.
Step 3: Save the map installation file to any place that is easy for you to remember. For me, I’d like to save the file in Documents folder or Desktop.
Step 4: You will see a MapManager window appear prompting you to install the map. Remember you should notice the name of your own HUNT Map displayed here.
Select “Install” to start the installation process. When this is done, the MapManager will let you know.
Step 5: Open the BaseCamp software before you start this tutorial and you will see the map you’ve just bought. In case you don’t see any HUNT Map you expected, be sure to select the correct map for viewing by choosing “Maps” in the top menu. Next, select the map product you want to view.
Note: Do not select “Global Map” only.
Step 6: Choose “Zoom in” to view the detail of the map.
Step 7: Close BaseCamp when you’re ready and then move on to the next section to unlock the HUNT Map for use with your device.
Unlock the HUNT Map to send it to your GPS
Step 1: When you log in to “huntinggpsmaps.com”, go to the “My Map” account page and select “Generate unlock Code”.
Step 2: Type your GPS unit and GPS model and Submit.
Step 3: To verify, click the “Copy Code” button on the “My Maps” account page to copy your code.
Step 4: Activate the Garmin BaseCamp software on your MAc.
Step 6: Select “Maps” in the menu bar and select “Edit Unlock Codes” from there.
Step 7: When you see an “Unlock Code Rditor” window, select “Add” on the right and paste the Unlock Code into the right field.
Step 8: Now, you’ve unlocked the map, so close the “Unlock Code Editor” window and the BaseCamp as well.
Step 9: Connect your GPS unit to your PC and turn it on.
Step 10: Open the “MapInstall” application coming with BaseCamp. Select the “Applications” icon on your desktop and then select “MapInstall” from those applications.
Step 11: The “MapInstall” software will show you the full process of sending the maps into your unit. After that, click “Send Maps” because this will lead to a basic installation which is sufficient for almost every GPS user.
Step 12: Now, you map is now installed on both your PC and GPS so you can unplug the device and take it out there for a real hunt.
Make sure that the Hunt map is available on your device
After having HUNT download map installed on your device, it’s important to test whether the map is viewable or not.
Step 1: Turn on your device
Step 2: Select “Setup” and choose “Map”
Step 3: Choose “Configure Map/Map information”
